What the buck app

Sometimes we experience welcome lulls during our development cycles.  We recently enjoyed one of these and we wanted to use the time to showcase some of the research and development work we have undertaken regarding marker recognition. Specifically the fact that we could use anything as a marker for an AR (augmented reality) experience.

Time was against us but we managed to build an augmented reality app and very simple accompanying website within a week.  Please see more from the press release below:

NEW APP USES DOLLAR BILLS TO POKE FUN AT THE US ELECTION CANDIDATES OBAMA AND ROMNEY

Augmented reality application shows amusing footage and slogans

With the US election just a week away this amusing take on the electoral candidates is a welcome tonic.  A light-hearted poke at the candidates, this mobile application uses image recognition technology to play videos over US dollar bills.

There are a selection of videos, images and slogans that play on different value bills, showing different content on each side.  The technology works by identifying pre-set image markers, in this instance dollar bills, which when viewed through your device, are replaced by other content. You can share images of this effect by sharing on social media.

There are several other uses of this type of augmented reality technology and demonstrates that almost anything can be used as a marker.

The application has been built by UK-based digital production agency putitout (http://putitout.co.uk) who build all types of web, mobile and social applications.
